-Elvis was known as the “King of Rock and Roll.”
-Elvis’ home “Graceland” in Memphis, TN is a popular tourist attraction

-There is a satellite radio station dedicated entirely to the life and music of Elvis Presley that broadcasts from Graceland.
-Elvis was influenced by country, rhythm & blues, gospel, and rock and roll music of the time.
-In 1954 Elvis began his singing career at Sun Records in Memphis, TN; by 1956 he was an international sensation.
-Elvis had a sound and style that uniquely combined his diverse musical influences and challenged the social and racial barriers of the time.
-He starred in 33 films and made history with his television appearances and specials including “Elvis: ’68 Comeback Special” and “Aloha from Hawaii”.
-Elvis’ recordings have sold more than 1 billion worldwide, more than any other artist.
-Elvis Presley received 14 Grammy nominations (3 wins), the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (at age 36), and was named One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Jaycees. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
-Elvis was drafted and served in the US Army from 1958-1960.
-Known all over the world by his first name, Elvis is regarded as one of the most important figures of 20th century popular culture.
